The perversion that is legalism.

You know what I really hate? When people pervert the message of the Gospels and turn it into this legalistic, pedantic code of rules designed to trip people up for every minor infringement. I loathe this ignorance of the express commands to love one another, to give to the poor, to help the needy, et cetera, especially when it's simply to attack people for behaviour that doesn't even matter. The last time I checked, Christ wasn't looking over your shoulder ready to beat you around the head and send you to burn for eternity for listening to rock music or playing a computer game where you subjugate an opposing civilisation. I think he's far more concerned with the fate of the less fortunate and what we, as both individuals and a society, do about it. Placing the shackles of legalism upon people certainly is not the message of the Gospels, but some people seem to enjoy their authoritarian trip and don't care for the truth. If you ask me, there's a whole lot more wholesome value in a U2 concert where Bono goes off about the plight of Africa than in some religious leader who has a problem with people attending said concert. OH NO HOW DARE PEOPLE HAVE THEIR EYES OPENED TO WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE WORLD WHILE ENJOYING MUSIC MADE WITH INSTRUMENTS THAT HAVE STRINGS AND USE ELECTRICITY!

There, I needed to get that one off my chest. Otherwise, I don't have much to say today. I love good music.
