38% of the adult population of the southern African nation of Swaziland has HIV/AIDS. Yes, over a third of the nation's population of roughly a million is infected. The average life expectancy isn't even 36 years. You can imagine what this means: we're not just talking about the demands placed on a third world healthcare system or the potential disaster it could have on the small nation's economy, but the impact on the very society itself will be enormous.

Let's put this in perspective. You're reading this entry, I wrote it, and I'm now asking you to think of one other friend. If the three of us lived in Swaziland, at least one of us would have HIV/AIDS. Even if you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't, you probably should reconsider those plans of retiring at 65. Looking for love? You better pick carefully. And if you're a woman, remember multiple wives are accepted and even encouraged, so you better hope your husband's a good picker too. And once your children start to grow up, pray for them. Pray a lot.

In fact, that's something we can all do for the country. Because what in the world do you do?
