I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Written by Bono, performed by U2

I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of the devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colours will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes, I'm still running

You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believe it
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for ...

If ever there were anthems or hymns for me, they can be found in The Joshua Tree. The Unforgettable Fire is the land, the atmosphere, and the heavens, and The Joshua Tree contains the songs I sing while I'm there. The opening three in particular are something special, some higher form of music that few can make. There is only one Holy Trinity of songs, and its name is Where The Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With Or Without You. And while I consider Where The Streets Have No Name to be the best song ever made, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For most certainly lives up to the task of following such genius. If ever there were a song that's lyrically my anthem, this is it.

I still haven't found what I'm looking for. It's what keeps me striving - this continual sense that there's so much more out there, a wealth of knowledge to explore, a vibrant world to discover, love to give and receive and drown in, and most of all, a spiritual feeling, a kingdom if you will, above all else. I'm tired of mediocrity, of the drudgery of the world, of the pursuit of urges without thought, of the appeal to the most animalistic desires. I'm idealistic, I'll strive for things that can't be achieved in this lifetime, I'll live the contradiction of a cynic who seriously expects the best rather than the worst in people, and I'll strive for something more, something much higher than mere existence. I still haven't found where the streets have no name. But there are some things that give me a sense, a feeling of that higher ground, The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree being two of the greatest sources, and I hope one day to find what I'm looking for.

I'm feeling so idealistic and inspired right now, so in search of something higher, and I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing or how to capitalise upon it.

I want to run, I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls that hold me inside
I want to reach out and touch the flame
Where the streets have no name ...
