Fire [18 September 2003|01:55 pm]
[Current Mood |Nervous]
[Current Music |'Fire' by U2 (How appropriate ...)]

"Today, bushfires are running wild on Straddie and in northern NSW, homes on the Gold Coast are cracking in the heat and the dam is back down to 47 per cent. It's only September 18." - front page of today's Gold Coast Bulletin

*Straddie = Stradbroke Island ... well, there's actually North and South. There's a massive bushfire on North Straddie. South Straddie is right off the northern Gold Coast, North Straddie is just to the north of it.

*Northern NSW = seeing I'm just over the border in Queensland, northern New South Wales would be just to my south.

*dam back down to 47 per cent - at the worst of the drought, the dam nearly emptied so severely that it was only 25 per cent full, which would've been critical level. For the last six months, it has been progressively filling, reaching the halfway mark, but now it's going back down.

Good bob. It's going to be a terrible bushfire season this summer. It's hot, the forests are tinder dry, there's not much chance of rain, and there have been some big winds around lately, which will hopefully go away before things really get going. Last summer was bad enough, but the conditions are even worse now. At school this morning, before I came home sick, the entire place was covered in smoke, most likely from the North Straddie fire. When my Aunt Karina picked me up, she said that when she had been driving to my place about 20 minutes earlier, the smoke had been so thick people had to put their lights on - at bloody 10am!

It's going to be bad. It's bad already, and it's only September 18 ...

I love this song.Collapse )

Also, there's this, which I think is a fantastic song.Collapse )

Right, that'll do. Just thought I'd share those two songs. I've always liked them, but I've really fallen in love with them lately, particularly Surrender. Some really worthwhile stuff in the meaning of that song.

Yay, school is finally over the term. Tomorrow isn't worth showing up for, so I'll just bum around home exactly how I plan on doing for the next two weeks. I'm so glad exams and such are over, because they really are anti-fun.

I got my results for the Maths B knowledge exam back today. 21 out of 31. My quick calculations reveal that to be 67.5 per cent, which is right on the border of B- and C+. I am really pissed about that. Maths C is meant to be harder than Maths B, and yet I fly through C and get terrible results like that in B? Hmm ... something's not right there. I know what it is, too - my Maths B teacher is crap. I don't feel like I've learnt anything this term. Stupid flaming moron.

In fact, my B results have been up and down all year. Term one, I got 15.5 out of 31, which is the lowest possible pass mark. Then I got 33 out of 35 in term two, which I think was top of the class, and now I'm back down to 21? What the Popmart is going on here? Stupid bloody Cappo. His teaching is really up the wop.

Strangeness [18 September 2003|03:41 pm]
[Current Mood |Lazy]
[Current Music |'With Or Without You (Rattle And Hum video)' by U2]

It's funny. At various points throughout this afternoon, I've suddenly had this thought that goes something like "I should get offline now. Better go do some study and work on my assignments" and then I suddenly realise that, wait, hang on, I'm on holidays now, no more study, no more assignments, and I can just stay online for ages and it doesn't matter. I'd forgotten just how nice this feeling is.
