screendoor3 is my hero for uploading those REM tracks. Drive is a frigging amazing song. It's very strange to be listening to studio stuff, though. First I'm Not Your Baby and now this REM stuff. I've been listening to bootlegs for so long that studio music doesn't sound right. I'm now going through my collection of U2 b-sides, remixes, and studio rarities, and wow, some stuff I've never listened to is pretty interesting. The start of Dirty Day (Bitter Kiss) really caught me offguard.
Got our school photos today. Kind of amusing, actually. Aaron looks like an Arabic suicide bomber, like on the tapes before they do the bombing where they rant in Arabic and wave a machine gun around. Burns looks like a mentally backwards snowman crossed with a puppy. I look like a flaming idiot, despite what Mum says to the contrary. I think it makes me look sunburnt. I'm surprised at how little of the random eczema that had broke out on my face at the time is actually visible. I was paranoid it would stick out horribly, but it doesn't, and now it's all been gone for a while and life's good.
There's one thing I don't get. It's how big a deal people make over being prefects. Today, we found out who's been promoted to prefect from student leader. I missed out, Sam made it so good on him, and some people who missed out were really annoyed. A big deal was made about it. Sheesh, when my home room teacher led prayer, he said a bit for people who missed out. My reaction was "wow, if people are going to get hysterical about it, they have problems." C'mon. It's not like your world's ending, and if you're only doing stuff to earn a reward or promotion, then should you be doing it with such selfish motives? I couldn't give a stuff that I missed out because IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. Sheesh. No need to make a huge song and dance about it.
What DOES annoy me is how dodgy things have been with my group. In the years I've been at the school, there have often been problems with the yearbook, and so this year we're setting our targets on efficiency and getting it all done. HOWEVER, we still don't have a teacher, which we need to get any access to resources, and we've basically been left out in the cold. Thankfully things won't start picking up for us for a good little while yet. I just want to bring back the 'Can You Imagine ...?' section. Can you imagine André not being a U2 fanatic?
You know what's cool? The random burst of U2 setlist-related inspiration I just had.
