Evidently, my birthday has come early this year. This is a bit strange; at this time of year, it's meant to be Kate's birthday (well, tomorrow), with mine just over a week away on the 17th. But now was the opportune time for my mother to purchase my birthday present and give it to me, so she did. I am now the very proud owner of a snazzy 320GB external hard drive. It is indeed drooltastic. I now no longer have to worry about space on my overburdened hard drive, or about it becoming temperamental and crashing on me and taking all my data with it as everything even faintly, remotely important shall be backed up on the external hard drive.
Accordingly, I am currently transferring my entire music collection to the new hard drive. However, I have encountered a slight dilemma of sorts. Within the folders for individual artists, I cannot decide whether I wish to categorise albums alphabetically or chronologically. To use U2 as an example:
Alphabetically: Achtung Baby All That You Can't Leave Behind Boy [Et cetera]
Chronologically: 1980 - Boy 1981 - October 1983 - War [Et cetera]
I can't decide which is preferable, so I figured I'd seek the input of you good people, especially those of you who are generorky enough to also fuss over your music collection's organisation like this. So here's a poll! I haven't made one of these in a while.

| A government ownership poll. |
[23 December 2005|09:56 pm] |
Random political poll! Just because I feel like it.
Although I've held off on continuing my political series, I've still been thinking about my political stance, specifically where I stand on governmental ownership of national services such as the railways and telecommunications. So I thought I'd make a poll to see just how (un)common my viewpoint is amongst those who read my journal.
Please note: selecting 'yes' does not necessarily mean you oppose private ownership. For example, you could believe as I do and select 'yes, not-for-profit to benefit the population' and think that private companies should be allowed to be established and operate alongside and compete with the government (i.e. someone believes they can create a telecommunications company that can provide a better service than what the government offers at a lower cost to the consumer while still making a profit for themselves).

I will likely elaborate more on my viewpoint at a later date. |

| How to scare yourself. |
[21 September 2005|09:27 pm] |
Sometimes I do things that, once I'm done, cause me to stop for a minute and think "André, did you really just do that?" Today, I did one of those things. After the setlist of today's U2 concert became known, I was inspired to make a thread on Interference off memory (with U2-Vertigo-Tour.com open for cross-checking). This was not some fanladish trick to me, but just the basic recall of data like I would remember my mother's birthday or Kate's favourite colour. I then sat back and looked at it and thought "... WTF?"
( The thread post in question. I don't expect non-U2 fans - or anyone, really - to read it. Just glance at it so you get an idea of what I actually did. )
I am officially insane.

I do not plan on seeking a cure for either my insanity or Memory Like A Sponge Syndrome. |

This is the BEST THING EVER. Well, maybe not quite, but it's still incredibly addictive. Have a wild guess what I've been doing all evening.
No, seriously.

| A quote and a poll, what fun for your day! |
[23 August 2005|08:05 pm] |
Despite the serious background information I'm about to present, here's a great quote. In 1985, New Zealand's Prime Minister David Lange established the nation as nuclear-free; the USA was quite unhappy with this, and when it could not force its own way, it rather immaturely suspended its ANZUS Treaty obligations to New Zealand. Now, during Lange's period in office, the US Ambassador H. Monroe Browne owned a racehorse called Lacka Reason, and Lange remarked to him: "You are the only ambassador in the world to race a horse named after your country's foreign policy."
On a completely unrelated note, here's some polltastic fun! Please note: I use the term 'sport' loosely - whether or not the following four ARE in actual fact worthy of the term 'sport' is debatable.

All of the bloody above. I'd rather watch grass grow, paint dry, or Chris Martin whine about fixing a toy you. |
