[Current Music |'Missing Person' by Split Enz]

Split Enz are back, and it felt like they'd never gone anywhere. The quality of the band's performance last night was outstanding; you certainly couldn't tell that, besides a few one-offs, the band had been disbanded for roughly two decades. Considering the fact Split Enz had essentially ceased to be an entity before I was even born, I never thought I would have the chance to see them live, and they certainly lived up to every expectation I could've had. I'd also like to say I'm delighted that it was the first night of the band's tour, as that stopped me from ruining any surprises by looking at setlists from earlier dates! If you're going to a later date and don't want spoilers, don't waste your time clicking the cuts because just about everything I've written is filled with spoilers.

The opener: Evermore. )

The main event: the legendary Split Enz! )

In summary, Split Enz were nothing short of 10 out of 10. It was definitely worth the money to see them, and if anyone reading this has the chance to see them over this tour, go! You won't regret it.

For your listening pleasure ... [24 August 2005|09:36 pm]

[Current Music |'She Speeds' by Straitjacket Fits]

Yes, it's a post of free music! Why am I posting free music?

1. To make up for the horror of my atrocious singing on Exit, here's some good stuff.
2. When I made my post praising Kiwi music, MP3s were requested. Well, as promised, here they are!
3. I was tagged for that "post 7 songs you're currently into" meme by someone a while back, so this is pretty much my response. I don't do memes, but I can sure post songs I'm enjoying currently! And why stop at seven?
4. Just for your general listening pleasure, because music's good.

On account of #2, I have split this into Kiwi music and music from anywhere else, with the Kiwi music today and the other music tomorrow (and maybe some more Kiwi stuff in there if I have the time and inclination). I have taken the liberty of considering Crowded House to be a Kiwi band despite the argument between New Zealand and Australia - Neil Finn, the lead singer, is a Kiwi so that's good enough for me. On account of #3, some songs will be classics by the band in question, while others will be my personal favourites, and I'm too lazy to offer a distinction (especially because classics and favourites overlap sometimes!).

Some of the songs are in MP3 format, some are in M4A. Whatever program you use to play music should have no trouble with MP3, but M4A is the iTunes format and may not work on other players. M4A does work on my WinAmp 5, but I honestly don't remember if I once downloaded a plugin to allow such files to play. If you don't use iTunes and haven't tried an M4A file before, you might just want to download one and see if it works on your player of choice.

Enough waffling, here's the music!

Quality music from New Zealand! )

You want music? There's definitely a lot of music there for you, and there'll be even more tomorrow! Watch out for that entry.

Download, listen, enjoy, and tell me what you think!

Kiwi music is The Awesome. [21 August 2005|10:14 pm]

[Current Music |'Six Months In A Leaky Boat' by Split Enz]

I would like to make a brief post right now in praise of the awesome music that has come from New Zealand and generally been tragically overlooked by the rest of the world. From The Chills to Shihad, The Feelers to Dave Dobbyn, and many other great bands and artists to the two and only Finn Brothers, New Zealand has produced some sensational material. Let me put this rather simply: Neil and Tim Finn are two of the greatest musicians to ever grace the planet and everything they touch turns to gold, from Split Enz to Crowded House and general brilliance together and solo. Yes, right now I am gushing all over an awesome playlist that has been keeping me thoroughly entertained this entire evening. I've been salivating over everything from a Chills bootleg to live Shihad to Neil Finn's amazing voice. Don't you just love that feeling when you know you're listening to fantastic music?

Listen to Kiwi music!

The Finn Brothers, 2005-07-22, Brisbane: I'd spend six months in a leaky boat to see a gig this good [23 July 2005|06:19 pm]

[Current Music |'I Got You' by Split Enz]

I'm not sure what to write about first: the incredible concert or the pathetic Australian crowd.

The awesome show! )

But how about that lousy Australian crowd? )

Summary: excellent show, shame about the crowd. If you haven't seen the Finn brothers live yet, hurry up and GO. Try to go somewhere with a good crowd too.
Finns: 10/10
Useless fucking Australian crowd: -57,000/10

[Current Music |'A Change Of Seasons' by Dream Theater]

22 July shall be notable this year for two reasons:
- Pi Day! 22/7, Pi as a fraction.
- The Finn brothers live in concert! Just bought my tickets. They aren't great, but then again, I appreciate higher spots as they permit a good view. I had an awesome view of U2 and the Vertigo Tour's wonderful light show at my first concert, and whenever I go to the cricket, I always take the highest seat I can get. This should be so awesome.

I would also like to say that Dream Theater's A Change Of Seasons is easily one of the most incredible songs ever recorded. How you can make a song twenty-three minutes in length without it getting boring or dragging in any place is totally beyond me.

I don't think I have much else to say today. Have a good one, folks!
