I've noticed something about myself: it seems to be incredibly difficult for me to get into new music. It just very rarely happens. In the last year, I've gotten into a meagre two bands, Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree, courtesy of paradoxicalbum's exceptional taste. Besides that, I've just been exploring music I grew up on - Crowded House and everything Finn, Dire Straits, Queen. I look at my Audioscrobbler and I realise I listen to an exceptionally low amount of music in terms of diversity - and when you put together related acts (Crowded House/Finn Brothers/Split Enz and U2/Edge/Bono), it looks even less diverse. Most other people seem to have no problem filling up their top fifty artists, while I've struggled to reach twenty.
I feel like I'm waiting for someone to come along and convert me to a band. I don't have the money to go out and buy albums willy-nilly, so I rely on my friends dosing me up with music until I can get around to buying CDs. And of course, I always do buy albums once I have the money. I had all of Porcupine Tree's In Absentia on my computer for a good few months before I had the money to go out and purchase the album. Bloody good buy too; good music sounds so much better in lossless, but in my poverty, I content myself with MP3/M4A/whatever.
This is a challenge to do your worst - YouSendIt.com is your friend. Throw music at me. Melodic or progressive rock is best. Make me a convert of whatever band you love.
